Books – We all find pieces of ourselves or who we want to be in our reading.
Work a book the same way a dog plays with a favored toy, with vigor, understanding, and a sense of exploratory fun.
Excellence:
Poetry
T.S. Elliot. E.E. Cummings. These two are good places to start exploring. Good poems are riddles to explore, nuts to crack, heaped layers of allusion and meaning to enjoy and find yourself in.
Mystery
A. Conan Doyle. Patricia Cornwall. Tony Hillerman. Keep trying new mysteries that take your reading to different geographies and cultures.
Fantasy
Roger Zelazny. Neil Gaiman. J.R.R. Tolkien. The classical and the psychological edge of fantasy story & narration. Both rich with color, imagery, excitement.
Dystopia
Orwell. Huxley. Burgess. Bradbury. The forerunners of the Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze Runner et. al. Both ends of the academic & popular spectrum are good reads.
